Nova Sea reports salmon escape
Undercurrent News, 29 Jan 2014
Norwegian salmon producer has reported that salmon escaped from a cage holding approximately 55,000 fish of an average weight of around 4 kilos.
The pen affected is in Gildeskal commune, just south of Bodo in northern Norway, Nova Sea and the Norwegian fisheries directorate said they do not know how many fish escaped, but the incident is thought to have happened during delousing, which would have caused a tear in the net.
Re-capture efforts have been started. The remaining fish in the pen will not be counted, due to low temperatures and risk for mortality during such an operation, said the directorate’s regional director for Nordland, Janne Andersen.
