BIM Statement: No Confirmed Reports of Escaped Salmon in Bantry Bay

Today, BIM released the following statement:

‘During the storms from February 1st, some damage was caused by anchors moving on a fish farm in Bantry Bay. Some salmon mortalities were recorded, but there are currently no confirmed reports of any escapes. The operator in question is in regular contact with the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the enclosures are being monitored around the clock. A detailed assessment will be carried out as soon as the weather conditions allow.’

Save Bantry Bay meanwhile await responses to Parliamentary Questions on the matter, and for results of the detailed assessment by operators once weather conditions allow.
