GALWAY BAY AGAINST SALMON CAGES PRESS RELEASE
A protest picket will take place outside the Marine Institute Rinville Oranmore Co. Galway next Thursday, 9th July at 8-45am. This picket is being organized by Galway Bay Against Salmon Cages (GBASC) to tell EC Commissioner Vella, Simon Coveney and associates that we don’t want their Environmentally damaging and unsustainable open sea cage salmon farm industry in Galway Bay.
Contrary to the briefing note from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine below, all the key stakeholders have not been invited to this meeting. Stakeholders who are concerned for the survival of wild salmon and sea trout such as, Inland Fisheries Ireland, The Federation of Irish Salmon and Sea Trout Anglers, National Association of Rod Anglers, Trout Anglers Federation, Corrib Anglers Federation, Salmon Watch Ireland, and of course ourselves, Galway Bay Against Salmon Cages have not been Invited.
If Minister Coveney is going to discuss the supposed benefits of open sea cage Aquaculture, then he must be prepared also to discuss the damage it can do to wild marine stocks.
GBASC are asking anyone who is opposed to the proposed mega open sea cage Galway Bay salmon farm, to attend this protest picket and let your voice be heard.
